Will TfL be as quick as San Francisco…By Thomas the Taxi.

A company in California thought they could circumnavigate the Taxi and Limousine laws as laid down by the Metro Transit authority & Public Utilities commission of California and put out an app on the iPhone for the public to hire a car and driver to pick them up. The car and driver would not be a registered Taxi or Limousine, more like our old fashion minicab.

The Company, UberCab Inc has an app on the apple app store that allows anyone to sign up as a driver. There is another app for prospective customers. For a price which is called an Uber fare the two are married up.
But the Metro Transit authority & Public Utilities commission of California were quick to act and have now issued a cease and desist order.

Since the order arrived on the 20th October, UberCab have still carried on in the face of a $5,000 penalty for each instance of state contravention and a potential 90 days in jail for each day the company remains in operation past the cease date.
