How I got Involved with Twitter and Tweetalondoncab (TLC)
I knew and had heard about twitter and that Stephen Fry was an enthusiast but it hadn’t occurred to me how invaluable this medium could be to Taxi Drivers. Until one night on LBC radio I was listening to a business owner describing how it allows him to keep in contact with his workforce. It was this broadcast that made me open my own twitter account @cabbydavid sometime around April of 2009. I then done a search for Taxi drivers and found @londontaximan (Karl). It was Karl that welcomed me to twitter and suggested that I look at his follower list as there were a few other cabbies there. I soon become hooked tweeting amongst the small community of drivers. (about 6 of us).
It was a Saturday night June 21st 2009 that I was in the cab tweeting to other cab drivers, when one of them who was out celebrating passing the knowledge (@Martcafc) tweeted, does anybody want to take me to Carshalton. Soon after he was in a Taxi driven by the now founder of tweetalondoncab Karl James @Londontaxiaman being whisked home.
When I awoke on the next morning there it was Tweetalondoncab (TLC). It turns out that TLC had been operating for some time. The first drivers (@londontaximan and @cabbiescapital) to get involved with twitter would often get tweeted by their followers asking if they were available to take them home. They had often discussed how to develop and grow TLC.
Ten days after Tweetalondoncab started operating. Tweetavegascab appeared on the horizon. But unfortually doesnt appear to have had the success Tweetalondoncab has had. To date TLC has over 2600 followers. And lots of loyal customers that just love the concept and coummunity that is TLC.
